What makes a great beginner ukulele class
A real song on day one
Our Play & Sing method has you strumming and singing a recognisable song in your very first lesson — no scales, no theory, no boredom.
Small groups, not classrooms
You learn alongside 6-10 other total beginners. Big enough to feel like a band, small enough that you get personal attention.
Gentle on adult fingers
The ukulele's four soft nylon strings are far kinder than guitar steel. Most students play comfortably from week one.

Your first 4 weeks as a beginner
- Week 1
Hold, strum, and play your first 2-chord song. You'll go home humming it.
- Week 2
Add a third chord and a basic strum pattern. Suddenly half the pop catalogue opens up.
- Week 3
Sing while you play — the moment everyone says 'oh, I can actually do this.'
- Week 4
Jam two or three songs end-to-end with the group. You're not a beginner anymore.
Beginner FAQs
I've never touched an instrument. Will I really be able to play?
Yes — that's exactly who our beginner class is built for. Most of our students have zero musical background. By the end of lesson one you'll already be strumming and singing a real song.
How long until I can play a song confidently?
A real, recognisable song on day one. Five to ten songs by week 3. A small repertoire you genuinely enjoy by the end of your first term.
Do I need to read music?
Not at all. We teach by chord shapes, strum patterns, and singing — no sheet music, no theory homework. If you can hold your phone, you can hold a ukulele.
What if I can't sing?
Singing in a small group is the gentlest possible way to find your voice. We've never had a student who couldn't sing along by the end of the term.
